7 Signs Of Mental Illness

0

Mental illness is not something to be taken lightly. People suffering from mental illness could be dangerous, especially if they’re acting out of character or not taking their medication. Identifying that you or a loved one is dealing with mental illness can sometimes be difficult, but you are in the right place. Here are 7 signs of mental illness.

  • Isolation

If you notice that the person in question is spending a lot of time in isolation, and specifically if they start to decline invitations from friends and family, there may be something wrong. If this person has always been extroverted and social but now spends their time alone in their room or at home without any contact with other people, there’s definitely cause for concern.

  • Extreme mood changes

It is normal to experience mood changes throughout the day, but if you notice that a person’s mood is dramatically shifting so fast, there could be something wrong.

  • Lack of concentration

It is almost impossible to function in society without concentrating on daily tasks. When a person cannot maintain focus, it can make them less productive at their job and fail to complete basic household chores. Often, one of the reasons why one may lack focus or even concentration is because they are dealing with mental illness.

  • Irrational fears or anxiety

Everyone gets scared or anxious about something, but if this person is experiencing intense feelings of fear without any real reason to be afraid, they might have a problem. Mental disorders can cause extreme feelings of irrational anxiety, which can sometimes result in panic attacks.

  • Changes in the way they dress or look

A person’s style varies from day to day, but if you notice a significant change in their appearance without any reason behind it, there could be something wrong. For example, someone who never wore baggy clothes might start wearing big coats and sweatshirts overnight without an explanation. In extreme cases, you might find that they do not even care about how they look anymore.

  • Expression of hopelessness or suicide

Most people suffering from mental illness will express some degree of hopelessness. It doesn’t necessarily mean that they are suicidal, but instead could be used as an indicator that something is wrong. Usually, when people are feeling down or depressed about themselves or their lives, they talk about it with family members or friends rather than keep everything bottled up inside. If someone appears to be giving up hope for their future, you should get them help immediately from a reputable residential mental health facility.

  • Sudden weight loss or weight gain

Losing or gaining weight rapidly can be an indicator of mental illness. It is important to remember that these are only warning signs, not definitive proof that someone suffers from a mental disorder. However, if you notice multiple warning signs for several weeks in a row, it might be time to discuss your concerns with them and suggest getting professional help.

Mental health disorders are real, and it is important to be aware of the early warning signs so you can catch them before they become more serious problems.
